Royal Portraits of the Duc and Duchess of Burgundy

The Duc (Louis Dauphine of France) and Duchess (Marie Adelaide of Savoy) were married when only 15 and 12 respectively. They were poisoned in 1712 during the L' Affaire des Poisons – a major murder scandal during the reign of Louis XIV. During the scandal their portraits were transported to Spain. Their youngest son later became King Louis XV of France. The portrait carved wooden frames are late 18th century. The tops of the frames are decorated with gold leafed carved laurel leaves and crowns.
